Course Content of Cambridge University MBA
The Cambridge University MBA is an intensive and full-time course. There are several components to the course including the core units (such as microeconomics, corporate finance, organisational behaviour and negotiation skills); a choice of five electives (examples include private equity, globalisation and international business and financial services strategy); a choice of concentration to allow you to make your course more specific to your needs (concentrations include entrepreneurship, finance, health and international business); summer activity; and up to four consulting projects throughout the course.
In addition to the above course content, you will also take part in a series of flagship distinguished speaker seminars that have been exclusively designed for the Cambridge MBA. You will get the opportunity to listen and speak to some of the leading business men and women from around the world.
Cambridge University MBA Term Dates
The Cambridge University MBA takes one year to complete. The Cambridge academic year is divided into three terms, each lasting eight weeks. The first term (Michaelmas Term) runs from September through December; the second term (Lent Term) runs from January through March; and the final term (Easter Term) runs from April through July. However, the MBA course also requires you to do additional work throughout the summer holidays – some summer work can extend until mid-September.
The MBA course is generally taken as a one year full-time course, however they also offer a 20 month Executive MBA course as well, which is ideal for those who need to continue working while studying.
Admissions into Cambridge University MBA
Admission into the Cambridge University MBA is notoriously competitive and the rejection rate is very high. The first requirement for admission into the course is a minimum of three years work experience before commencing the course. You must also have very high fluency in English – demonstrated by a 7.0+ IELTS score (if English isn’t your first language).
The next requirement is that you have the equivalent of a 1st or 2.1 undergraduate degree or were within the top 25 percent of your class. You will also be required to sit the GMAT and achieve a score of approximately 680.
Finally, you must be able to provide two references to be considered for the course – one from a supervisor and the other from a peer.
After you have submitted your application it will be reviewed by staff at the university. If your application is successful you will be required to visit Cambridge University for a one-on-one interview. In some cases you may be able to have your interview overseas if it is difficult for you to attend the university last minute.
You will be notified if you were successful approximately one week after your interview.
